Glacier Ridge Camping Trip July 16 - 17

The first Glacier trip of the summer is happening this weekend. Glacier Ridge is above the treeline and we fly over 11,000 ASL. 4x4 required to get to the area we normally fly and beyond. I will get to test the FJ Cruiser on some real trails. Hopefully my street tires survive and I don't regret not getting rock rails. You can easily get the camping area with any vehicle if you don't have 4wd and still want to come. We will ferry anyone that needs a ride to the top.

There is a spot where Dynamic Soaring can also work. Theres a groove in the right wind conditions but its not an ideal spot. There are some other passes in that area that have been scoped by Nick from Boulder and he says that they are world class DS spots. Landing tends to be the real killer of glass ships above the treeline though. You definately need to be able to spot land or hand catch which is difficult in the thin air. Landing speeds are about double that of the Denver sites.

I will be taking a full arsenal including the Lumberjacks, LEG planes, Banana, etc.

For more info on Glacier Ridge mountain site check the google earth project and also www.rcgroups.com slope area. There's also a few pics of past events in the gallery section. Greg from www.lavawing.com also has a video of last years fun.

Camping will be below the treeline on the way up. It's national forest land and there's some great primative camping sites close to the beaver ponds.

Everyone is welcome to come check out the action and beat the 100+ degree heat projected this weekend for the front range.
