Battery Tab Welder

All the parts I need to build a capacitive discharge welder are on their way, 2 bench power supplies, foot pedal, drill press mount, heavy guage wire, and high current SCR. I will use 1/8" CU nails for the contacts.

I also ordered some test nickel strips to try out my machine once it is built.

The main advantage of welding over soldering is ease of assembly. Soldering takes longer and is tricker to get right.

Look for welded packs in the store soon.

All the materials, wiring,

All the materials, wiring, and power supplies have been purchased and received. I hope to get some time to get the welder up and going soon.

Welder Works!!

Well, I finally got around to getting my battery tab welder together. I built my first packs tonight with it. It still needs some tweaking but it is working decently. I am going to add more capacitance so I can lower the voltage. A bit lower voltage makes it more forgiving if I don't get the battery lined up correctly.

AAA button cells are just too small to really weld reliably so those packs will remain soldered. the AA cells can be welded and most likely will be welded from now on. When the process works well it's much faster than soldering.
